About us

Hola, Hallo, Grüezi

“Camino del Alma” = The way of the soul, already says a lot about us…. All of a sudden, we knew it was time! Time for change, courage, listening to our inner voices, following our hearts and trusting the unknown. To be sure it was the right thing for all of us, we made all decisions together with our children, said goodbye to the old and accepted that all signs pointed to a new beginning and our journey began!

We are Björn and Susann, originally from Germany, but lived in Switzerland for the past 13 years. We decided to leave Europe and the “western world” to raise our children free and connected with nature and with this goal we fell in love with Bacalar and the magical Lagoon.

By chance we discovered this wonderful place for ourselves (but they say: there are no coincidences😉) and look forward to sharing it with YOU. Our life´s dream was to create an AirBnB experience of luxury enjoyment, true relaxation and the realm for you to reconnect with yourself and those you are traveling with.

The caribian paradise - Bacalar

Bacalar is undoubtably the secret tip of Quintana Roo, Mexiko.

It was originally a city of the mayan civilization in pre-columbian times. This was the first city in the region which the spanish conquistadores succeeded in taking and keeping in 1543. In 1545 Gaspar Pacheco alongside Juan de la Cámara established Bacalar as a spanish town with the name Salamanca de Bacalar. The region of the southern half of what is now Quintana Roo was governed from Bacalar, answerable to the Captain General of Yucatán in Mérida. Today Quintana Roo is governed through Chetumal.

After the town was sacked by pirates in the 17th century, the fortress de San Felipe Bacalar was founded in 1729, and can still be visited today.

In 1848 Bacalar had a population of about 5,000 people. In 1848 during the caste war of Yucatán, the rebellious Chan Santa Cruz Maya took over the town in a battle. It was not repossessed by the Mexicans until 1902.

In 2006 Bacalar was named “Pueblo Mágico”.

In 2010 the city had a population of 11,084 people. Bacalar is also the name of the magical lagoon of 7 colors which consists of 42 kilometers of sweet healing water, perfect for swimming and relaxing. Other available sports activities range from kayaking, paddle boarding and catamaran.

Destinations by car:

Chetumal 30 Minutes, Mahahual (next ocean and beach) 1,5 -hours, Tulum 2,5-hours and Playa del Carmen 3,5-hours away.

Fort of San Felipe:

The history of the fort of San Felipe Bacalar is also known as the Castillo de San Felipe. This famous fort located in Bacalar belongs to the great mexican state of Quintana Roo.

The Fort was proposed to be built in 1725 by the governor of Yucatán, Antonio de Figueroa y Silva. It was developed as a fort for defense and preservation, in the face of constant attacks commonly from the English. Its construction lasted around 8 years, finishing in 1733. 

**Open every day from 9:00 am till 7:00 pm (Monday closed) $ 100 mxn per person.**
